Back in September the organization One Day to Remember reached out to ask me to do a shoot in Boston for a family of theirs. Before answering I went to their website to make sure it wasn't a scam (occupational hazard). This is just a piece of what I read...
"One Day to Remember strives to provide a curated experience that is individualized for each family—AND at no cost to them... Our goal is to give families dealing with advanced-stage cancer the opportunity to make lasting, positive memories."
After reading this my answer was a huge YES! I was given the background on the family and a rundown of their trip. Naturally I cried because I'm a highly emotional person and because hearing about a mom who is fighting cancer wanting to give her kids a fun day was just the most mom thing I had ever heard. Fast forward to the day, I met this amazing family at Friends of Christopher Columbus Park in the North End of Boston, and I couldn't stop smiling. They were so full of love and laughter that was so infectious. I had so much fun watching them being silly, making each other laugh, dancing in the park (like they do in the kitchen) and just having a ball. I had a chance to chat with them too, it was so nice to get to know them a bit, hear about their family, the weekend and how much fun they were having.
So far, I have been able to continue my relationship with this incredible organization and I hope it is a relationship that will continue to grow. Every family with a parent fighting cancer deserves a day to forget and I'm honored to help them make those lasting memories.
